It was forty years ago today...
On June 10, 1971, the Ontario Theatre Conference opened in Geneva Park on Lake Couchiching in Orillia. It was a four-day event focused on "education, youth theatre, community theatre, and the theatre professional." By the end of the conference, a new central organization had been proposed, a steering committee had been struck, and - after much debate - the participants had agreed upon a name: Theatre Ontario. Forty years later, we're thankful for their legacy, and look forward to continuing that proud tradition of serving Ontario's theatre artists.

Marie earlier this week; she was a Life Member of Theatre Ontario and a former member of our Board of Directors; recently she had established with Theatre Ontario the Perry Short Award, a legacy in honour of her late husband, which promoted training and development for set designers through our Festival, Summer Courses and Talent Bank. For those who wish to remember Janet, here is her online memorial guest book.
